Thursday through Saturday nights, follow the sounds of the Psychobilly Rodeo Band playing outlaw country and classic rock to a crowded doorway on Main Street (east of Scottsdale Road).The band starts at 8pm and the crowd expands as night falls. After 10, don’t expect seats or much standing room, but the music, energy and friendliness of this horde of music lovers make for a wild and memorable evening! You’ll walk away thinking you just spent the night with a hundred of your closest friends.
Considered the oldest saloon in Scottsdale, the building was originally built as the Farmer’s State Bank in 1921. In 1951, it was converted from a real estate office into the Rusty Spur Café and then in 1958 it became the Rusty Spur Saloon. Today, the old bank vault houses the beer cooler for a regularly packed house.
Be sure to bring cash with you; while the bar accepts credit cards, the band plays for tips. And they are well worth it; write your selection on the bill and stuff it in the clear plastic jug in front of lead singer Jimmy Hornick and they’ll play your pick. If they can’t, they’ll pick one for you.
